1/3 bar Fels Naptha
1/2 cup washing soda
1/2 cup borax powder
water
large bucket
Grate the soap and put it in a saucepan. Add 6 cups water and heat until the soap melts. Add the washing soda and the borax and stir until dissolved. Remove from heat. Pour 4 cups hot water into the bucket. Add soap mixture and stir. Now add 1 gallon plus 6 cups water and stir. Let sit for about 24 hours until gelled. Use 1/2 cup per load.
Obviously I just made it - it hasn't been 24 hours yet, so I'll have to let you know how it works. I have heard that you can also scent it with your favorite essential oil, but it has a nice scent the way it sits right now - I'm afraid if I add something else the smells might not compliment each other!
While I was making the soap, Chick-a-Dee was busy cutting up zuchini from the garden for me.

sounds interesting! Tell me how it works for you!
Very interesting indeed! I'm wondering if this is safe in a front-loading machine...do you know? We have to use a special high-efficiency laundry soap. And how many loads do you expect this to do (I guess I could do the math..) and what was your total cost?
Sounds great!! I may give it a try.
